KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • The internship is divided into four placements of three months rotation between the Mankweng (Child and Family Unit (CFU) & OPD) Pietersburg, and Thabamoopo Hospitals.
  • All hospitals have in-patient and out-patient psychological services for adults and children.
  • Interns are also exposed to psychiatric patients admitted at the Child and Family Unit (CFU) which is an acute psychiatric ward in Mankweng hospital and forensic assessments and observations at Thabamoopo which is a
    specialized psychiatric hospital.
  • The CFU’s emphasis with regards to the internship training is on practical experience and exposure in the assessment and management of a wide range of adolescents and adult psychiatric conditions, forensic work, and working with a multi-disciplinary team of mental health professionals.
  • Chronic psychiatric patients are admitted at Thabamoopo hospital.
